The Sex Pistols and The Clash, The Buzzcocks and Siouxsie Sue; Never Mind the Bollocks and White Riot. Bondage gear, King's Road and Vivienne Westwood. No celebration of 1977 would be complete without a nod to Punk Rock and its associated political movements.

What we want, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, is Anarchy In the UK, a White Riot in 1977, Holidays in the Sun while London's Burning 'cause we're all Pretty Vacant and there's No More Heroes any more.

So, anarchy on the streets, in headquarters, between the lads or involving them. Punks on the rampage, or a visit to Malcolm McLaren's boutique SEX. Whatever you fancy and however it grabs your interest. Short or long, art, vid, or fiction, any and all are welcome.

Plus, come and share your stories. Were you the kid with the mohican? Did you raid your mum's kitchen for food colouring and black plastic bags? Did you use safety pins as earrings? Or maybe punks were the colourful older generation? The ones you looked up to and wanted to become. Whatever your memories, tell us and help us get a feel for the way things were back when the lads were just getting ready to appear on the small screen.

* October 18 - Reggie Jackson blasts 3 home runs to lead the New York Yankees to World Series victory.
* October 19 - German Autumn: Kidnapped industrialist Hanns-Martin Schleyer is found killed in Mulhouse, France.
* October 20 - Three members of the rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd die in a charter plane crash outside Gillsburg, Mississippi.
* October 21 - The European Patent Institute is founded.
* October 26 - The last natural smallpox case is discovered in Merca district, Somalia. The WHO and the CDC consider this date the anniversary of the eradication of smallpox, the most spectacular success of vaccination and, by extension, of modern science.
* October 28 - Hong Kong police forces attack the ICAC headquarters.
* October 28 - Never Mind The Bollocks Here's The Sex Pistols is released in the United Kingdom.
* October, exact date unknown - Atari 2600 game system is released.

A prompt would likely be good. I missed most of this history, since we didn't have a TV and my mum wasn't into pop culture. I didn't know punk rockers existed in 1977 - I only caught it the second time around in the late eighties.

I actually have a bit of a mohican now (on good days), but back then I was into almost everything punk was invented to hate *g* But I did like staring at them on the King's Road of a Saturday afternoon (that was before they became a bona fide tourist attraction) and some of the clothes were brilliant. They were never scary -- that was the skinheads. Also did like the Stranglers - the music reminds me of hanging around bus stops. My clearest memory of the punk years is my Dad coming up to my room when I was in bed and haranguing me about this awful anarchy in the uk business and how he hoped that I wasn't going to blah blah blah ... think he'd just seen the Sex Pistols on the nine o'clock news or something. Bless him, he was really worried!

Not sure how B and D will get on with all this ... but No More Heroes ... heh, yes I think I just prompted myself *g*

I'm about 4 years too young to really have been into it, but I remember seeing them on the telly and for real and being intimidated. They were so different from anything I'd ever seen before. And the music was so loud and discordant. Now it seems almost like AOR, which says something about the way my musical tastes have changed. LOL

I was a very early hippy, so the whole punk thing just passed me by. School pals were listening to all this Pil, Clash, Stranglers stuff, and there was me with Bob Dylan lyrics all over the wall, twittering on about Van Morrison and Simon and Garfunkel. Just.. so not cool at the time. And prior to that it had been Abba and the Bay City Rollers, so a lost cause really.

Had a life-changing moment when I first saw the Police do Roxanne, mind..
