Posting on behalf of
magenta_blue, who's dongle is not doing what it should be dongling...
So sorry this is late - and it almost didn't make it! Imagine flashing fingers typing as-fast-as-they-blooming-well-can all day today, fuelled by mucho coffee and chocolate, and that has pretty much been the scene... *g* And then of course, at the eleventh hour, my LJ goes belly up so I cannot post – so I have asked my lightening fast beta, Slantedlight, to do it for me – thank so much me dear, for this and for the beta-ing!
For my day (coughs, night) I humbly bring fic to the table, and hope very much you like it! My prompt was 'Lonely this Christmas', a song by the British band called Mud.

Date: 2008-12-18 11:05 am (UTC)Thank you for a very engrossing story.
Damn dongles! No wonder they don't work very well with a name like that. Hope everything is working OK now.

Date: 2008-12-18 07:45 pm (UTC)Really glad you liked it, and that you thought it would make a good episode (and I don't suppose they would include that bit, damn them!)
Dongles are the pits. Although at least it's now letting me reply to comments... so I guess I shouldn't be too cross with the stupidly-named thing!

Date: 2008-12-18 11:51 am (UTC)And, needless to say, some very nice writing:
The road gleamed blackly in the car headlights, rain splattering upwards as it hit the subdued gold of the car bonnet
Thanks for this!

Date: 2008-12-18 07:49 pm (UTC)I love writing plot-driven stories, generally all my ideas start with a plot in mind. Mostly I try and write an episode that I would have liked to watch, so I am very glad that gets across and others enjoy it the way I see it. And thanks for saying nice writing, I appreciate that very much!

Date: 2008-12-18 07:59 pm (UTC)I am especially chuffed at making you disappear into the story for a while - it's great that it caught and held your attention like that - just what I was hoping for, and I am really glad you liked it!

Date: 2008-12-18 08:10 pm (UTC)I love writing plotty stories, and bringing all the gang in where they fit. Glad Cowley came across well (I wanted him to be exactly that - thinking, caring and controller-like, so yay!), and the fact everyone seemed real and like the show - warms the heart, that does! Glad you liked the Doyle h/c too, and Bodie's little joke at the end, the idea for that came pretty much before the writing - couldn't resist!
I know, that bloody song! I chose the day without quite thinking it through, and then I was like oh flip, the most depressing christmas song ever! I prefer Tigerfeet too... *g*

Date: 2008-12-18 04:15 pm (UTC)Fabulous read, thank you so much. ::beams::
It reads just like an ep, only much better! I love your Cowley being so in control, and still taking time out to care about people; and that lovely little pause in the action with the song on the radio was perfection.
Wonderful - thank you again.

Date: 2008-12-18 08:18 pm (UTC)I love writing plotty stories, and basically write the episode I'd have liked to have seen on screen, but with added extras *g* I am so pleased it worked for you like that, and that you enjoyed it - great to hear!

Date: 2008-12-18 04:37 pm (UTC)Bodie watched how the soft lamp-light played over his face, and grinned – it was all for him, it was always for him. “Sounds good to me.” Just the lads to perfection, thank you.

Date: 2008-12-21 06:19 am (UTC)It was really nice, the way it read as a missing episode but it was the little touches I really enjoyed... Doyle's tender touch coupled with his Delorean question, Murphy's family's garden being big enough to land a helicopter in, the details of Betty's office... Really beautifully filled in for us.
Thank you! :D
