Hello, there's still lots of the pretty white stuff down my neck of the woods, so I wrote this very short snow-themed ficlet...

*ring ring* *ring ring*

“Hello?”

“It’s me.”

“What’s happened?”

“Who said anything had happened?”

“You’ve only gone to the village to get some milk, you’ll be back here in ten minutes, why else would you ring unless something had happened?”

“You know what, you should’ve been a copper.”

“Nice try, now tell me what’s happened?”

“Nothing’s happened... just might be a bit longer than ten minutes, that’s all.”

“Why? What’s going on?”

“Nothing’s going on.”

“Bodie...”

“I’ve been slightly delayed...”

“Bo-die!

“All right, I crashed the car.”

“You what! You stupid, bloody, reckless-”

“Thanks very much for your concern, mate, but don’t worry I’m fine...”

“I should hope you are fine, driving that bloody tank! What happened, anyone else involved?”

“Hit a bit of ice up by Mike’s farm... slid off the road and into a ditch. Surprised a few sheep in the next field, but no other casualties.”

“Mike’s farm? What the hell you doing over there?”

“I was taking the scenic route home.”

“Don’t give me that, went off on a little joy-ride in the snow, more like... Won't it start now, then?”

“Yeah it starts, but I can’t get it out the ditch. I’ve rung Mike, he’s on his way. Going to pull me out with the tractor.”

“So let’s get this straight. That bloody great 4x4 you insisted on buying, because it would be so invaluable to us in winter, has skidded in the snow and is now stuck in a ditch?”

“...”

“Well?”

“It was ice, Ray, not snow... even a Range Rover’s not infallible.”

“You were going too fast, weren’t you? Couldn’t resist trying it out in the snow, see how it handled... probably doing bloody handbrake turns, weren’t you? Pillock!”

“Course I wasn’t-”

“I know you too well, mate! That’s why you were so keen to go out soon as you drew the curtains this morning and saw the weather!”

“I offered to go out in freezing conditions to get milk for your coffee out of the goodness of my heart, and this is all the thanks I get...”

“Save it, mate, it won’t wash... What’s the damage anyway?”

“Not much, I don’t think, bull bars took the brunt of it...”

“Not to the car, you prat, to Mike’s property?”

“Oh. Well, yeah, there’s a bit of a gap where the hedge should be..."

“Terrific. Mike will be pleased. So how long you going to be?”

“Dunno, not long I hope... getting bloody cold standing here.”

“But you’re all right, aren’t you? Didn’t give that thick head of yours a knock or anything?”

“No... just my pride.”

“...Want me to come out and keep you company?”

“Nah, you stay put... no point both of us freezing our nuts off.”

“All right... well soon as you get yourself back here, I’ll warm up any freezing parts you might have. How’s that sound?”

“Almost worth crashing the car for...”

“Prat. Ring me when you’re on your way, right?”

“Yes mum. See you later.”

Silly sod.

Lovely!! I really enjoyed that - and there's still snow outside our windows, too, so it added to the atmosphere!

Oh, I've just got into work and there's lads waiting for me! Lads in the snow! Thank you so much... *g* I don't usually go too much for dialogue fic, but this totally worked for me, because it was telling a story at the same time - and heee for Bodie with a big car in a ditch! I'd love to know what you reckon Doyle drives, come to think of it... *g* That was fun, and I'm feeling much warmer myself now! *vbg*

Typical Bodie!
I love it very much - and looking out of my window I've found the right place where Bodie has gone through the hedge... :-)

Now that was definitely the older lads having a bit of a discussion. I liked it. I could hear every word. It takes a good hand to do dialogue fic, which I really enjoy when it's done well. Thanks!

This made me giggle! Bodie never did grow up, did he?

oh wonderful!

Having enjoyed watching a neighbour using his newly-restored vintage tractor to clear snow off our road for the past few days, snowy roads and hedges and tractor fic is just perfect! Bodie would so want a Range Rover!

Enjoyed that - very Our Lads (almost Larton Lads in fact).

I enjoyed this story, short and sweet! I love the way Ray knew there was a problem straight away...'should have been a copper' and miwahni was right, Bodie is a big kid when all is said and done!

I really enjoyed that. I could hear them speaking. Silly sod. is right, Doyle knows his Bodie. *g*

I'm off to bed now and hope to dream of Bodie stuck in the snow, leaving Ray at home to worry.

Oh, lovely! Bodie so would go out into the snow to do handbrake turns! Thank you for this--it cheered my morning right up.

(I may be doing something rather similar for this challenge, too. Great minds, and all.... *g*)

Terrific dialogue -- you managed to capture so much of their character in this short piece. I was also wondering if this was somewhat linked to the Larton Universe, what with the rural setting and Range Rovers in the snow. No matter, I like it!

hand-brake turns ....

Absolutely spot-on, it sounds to me, and a lot packed in to a little space too! You can really hear their voices in this, and you know just what they're like and how they're living these days - what a great example of how to write the perfect vignette! Thank you for this glimpse of the lads, it's really lovely!

Bodie with a Range Rover! Perfect - as is Doyle's reaction to the whole situation!

I could really hear their voices in this, and the whole conversation made me giggle a lot - which is a little embarrassing, given that I sneaked a read at work. ahem.

Thank you - great ficlet!

Love it! Especially as I nearly had the same thing happen to me yesterday... the boss man was demonstrating handbrake turns in the snow, and we missed the ditch by this much... boys!

I love the idea of older lads, settled down in the country somewhere, going out for milk and being mates with the local farmer... happy sigh *g* Thanks!

This was just the thing to cheer me up after a trying day at work!
Doyle just knows when Bodie tried to cover up something, and even though he sounds all tough and annoyed, he does care and makes sure Bodie is really alright after his little stunt. :)

I do wish we had just a little bit of snow, but getting it via Pros fic is just as nice!

Oh, wasn't this lovely! So obviously our lads - they might be older, but they'll never change! You've captured them perfectly.

Don't suppose we could persuade you to write a nice long fic featuring these older lads, could we?

(BTW, as I was reading I was thinking "This could be Larton" and I see that others have mentioned that too!)

Catching up on my reading

Well when I am later in my reading I am very late but I wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed this. Love the arguing and the way you can see the affection showing through. Thanks ♥.

*beams* There´s nothing like a bit of fun in the snow, is there?
Maybe a warm, fluffy fic on a cold white morning?

Thanks so much for capturing this perfect moment!
