A little Christmas story - Part one

It was slightly foggy outside while Bodie and Doyle where driving home from their last assignment. The radio was playing Driving home for Christmas and it was starting to snow.

Suddenly there was a suspicious noise and the car came to a halt. "What was that?" "I don't know Bodie. Let's get out and have a look."

They climbed out of the car

and Bodie grabbed that chance to throw a snowball at Doyle.

"Oi, you clot. We should work on the car, not on the snow." Doyle opened the bonnet and they looked inside.

"Get me some of the tools from the boot, will you?" Doyle asked. Bodie went around the car and looked if they had something in the boot they could use.

After twenty minutes Doyle cursed. "I can't fix it." "Well, so let's call HQ, they will sent the breakdown lorry and pick us up." Doyle looked shocked. "Never, Bodie. You know very well what will happen then. The Cow would expect a full report on why the car has broken down. No, you go and call Andrew and tell him he should get here and help me. Then you can take the bus and drive home and heat up the bathroom."

So Bodie walked to the phonebox to call Doyle's old friend Andrew, the mechanic who sometimes helped him fix his bike.

"Andrew. It's Bodie. Our car has broken down and Doyle needs some help. Yes, we tried, but we can't fix it on our own. We don't have the tools we need." He gave Andrew the address where Doyle and the Capri were and then climbed onto the bus which would take him home.

Two bus stops in front of his apartment he saw a Christmas tree seller. "Well, that would be a nice surprise for Doyle to come home and the Christmas tree is already there." He got off the bus.

The salesman had a wide range of trees. Small ones, medium-sized, large and very large. Bodie instantly fell in love with the large and very large one. But he knew he had to go home and measure the height of the room before he could buy a tree.

The whole time Doyle was waiting for Andrew to come to the rescue. He thought about going to the phonebox himselfe and phone Andrew again when he heard the bike.

He was lucky that Andrew had all tools they needed. After fifteen more minutes he was ready to drive home.

When Bodie got home he used the folding ruler to measure the height of the room.

"Yes, the large one would fit perfectly. It would be nice to have a very large Christmas tree this year." He left the house again and went to the Christmas tree salesman. On his way there he started building a snowman.

But he knew that he didn't have enough time and stopped playing around. He walked the distance to the salesman very fast and was lucky. The large and the very large tree were already waiting for him.

He bought the large tree and tried to take the bus home. But the tree wouldn't fit.

"Oh shit, I'll have to ask Doyle to pick me up. So much for the surprise. But then I'll take the biggest tree that is there". Bodie took his R/T out and called Doyle. "Can you pick me up, please? I'm two blocks from home." "Yeah, I'll come, mate."

When Doyle arrived Bodie stood beside his tree, chatting with the salesman. "Bodie, what have you done?", called Doyle. "Oh, I only bought the Christmas tree", Bodie grinned.

"And how are we gonna get it home?" Doyle asked. "Well, I thought we could put it on to the roof of the car....." So they tried

and after a few snags they fixed it onto the roof.

The rest was easy. They drove home and carried the tree into the living room.

"Let's have champagne, Bodie. I think we've earn it." "Yes, Doyle, but wait and see how beautiful the tree will look when we've decorated it."
