"Stop that!"

Doyle chanced a quick glance over at Bodie, who sat stiffly in the passenger's seat.

"What?" Doyle answered curtly, eyes darting to the mirror again.

"Stop looking like somebody's following us."

With a roll of his eyes, Doyle said, "Somebody's following us."

Bodie relaxed and grinned. "Brown Cortina? Three cars back?"

"Berk," Doyle groused. "Yeah."

"Better lose him before we meet with Marty."

"Right."

Bodie raised an eyebrow when Doyle continued to drive on without making his move. "Problem?"

"Big one." When Bodie started to turn his head, Doyle said, "Don't turn around!"

"Why not?"

"Turn you into a pillar of salt, mate."

"Oh, Christ. Is it one of ours?"

"Ours?" Doyle said bitingly.

"Not all the lads would be against us," Bodie said sagely. "Even if-" He shrugged.

"Even if they knew?"

"Yeah."

"Then why is one of our lads following us?"

"Cowley's orders, of course."

Doyle let out a cold chuckle. "Cowley's orders, of course."

Bodie glanced at Doyle, who looked back intently. They stared at each other for a moment before Doyle's gaze returned to the road. Bodie put a hand on Doyle's arm and asked, "Why did Cowley shake our hands?"

Doyle shifted down into third. "Same as before. We're expendable."

"Bloody hell. Have had enough of that, you know."

"I know. Hold your breath, sunshine. We're going to have a chat up with our former fellow agent. See what sort of talk is going round the hallowed halls of CI5."

The Capri roared forward when Doyle mashed the accelerator.

I enjoyed this part. Doyle's comment about the pillar of salt made me giggle. And I liked the reference to Cowley's hand shake and the lads being expendable. You did a great job! Thanks for sharing!

Oh, this is getting better and better. What a clever move to have them being followed which of course they find out immediately. And very clever connection to canon too with pillar of salt and double meaning hand shake. Hm - I think I want to contribute a tiny short bit here. I don't envy whoever's following them! Not very good of him/her to be spotted to quickly. Of course, our lads are good at their jobs. And even better when they only have each other to rely on.
